Guaranteed returns. A magic trading bot. And a man screaming on a stage. Then two point four BILLION dollars... disappeared. In this episode of USA Scam Watch, we expose BitConnect — the crypto platform that promised guaranteed profits from a "Trading Bot," became one of the internet's biggest memes, and, according to the U.S. Department of Justice, was a textbook Ponzi scheme all along. KEY FACTS (as reported): 1. A San Diego federal grand jury indicted BitConnect founder Satish Kumbhani (Feb 2022) for orchestrating a global Ponzi scheme; the DOJ says he and co-conspirators obtained ~$2.4 billion from investors (DOJ/IRS-CI). 2. BitConnect touted a "Trading Bot" and "Volatility Software" that would generate guaranteed returns from crypto volatility; in reality it paid early investors with later investors' money (DOJ). 3. BitConnect Coin (BCC) hit $463.31 in Dec 2017 with a peak market cap of $3.4 billion, then collapsed ~95%+ within months (DOJ, CoinMarketCap via Cointelegraph). 4. After about a year, Kumbhani abruptly shut the Lending Program and directed promoters to manipulate BCC's price to fake market demand (DOJ). 5. Proceeds were laundered through what prosecutors called a "cluster of cryptocurrency wallets" and international exchanges (DOJ). 6. Promoter Glenn Arcaro pleaded guilty in Sept 2021 to fraud charges tied to BitConnect (DOJ via Cointelegraph). 7. Kumbhani remains a fugitive at large; the charges against him carry up to 70 years cumulatively (DOJ via iTnews). 8. The SEC separately charged Kumbhani with fraudulently raising ~$2 billion (Merkle Science). 9. Note: Kumbhani is indicted, not convicted — innocent until proven guilty. 10. NARRATION: AI voiceover.
