In this powerful and deeply human talk, Candice Nonas shares what happens when the life you builtâcareer, wealth, identity, and securityâdisappears almost overnight. Raised in a working-class family in Stamford, Connecticut, Candice was taught that hard work could unlock any door. That belief carried her from a blue-collar upbringing to earning her Masterâs degree from Columbia University and into the high-stakes world of Wall Street. She built a thriving career in structured finance, working at Moody's Investors Service before becoming a lead risk manager at a British investment bank, overseeing billions in subprime mortgage-backed securities during the height of the market boom. She had it allâfirst-class flights, luxury hotels, oceanfront homes, and professional prestige. Then the 2008â2009 Global Financial Crisis hit. Her industry collapsed. Her job became obsolete. Recruiters stopped calling. At the same time, she lost her mother to cancer, her marriage ended, her beloved dog passed away, and she was forced to sell her home and start over in a 450-square-foot apartment. In âWhat To Do When Success Disappears Suddenly,â Candice explores the identity crisis that follows professional annihilation and personal loss. Who are you when your title is gone? How do you move forward when everything familiar is stripped away? Drawing on her motherâs timeless adviceââkick the stones out of your pathâ and âthis too shall passââCandice reveals how resilience is not about bouncing back, but about building forward. She introduces the concept of creating a ânew mosaicâ: taking the broken pieces of your former lifeâyour skills, experience, and lessonsâand assembling them into something stronger. From helping implement financial reforms at the FDIC after the crisis to rebuilding her career in regulatory consulting, Candice demonstrates that reinvention is a deliberate act. Today, as many fear obsolescence in the age of AI and automation, her message is urgent and universal: You canât vanish if you reinvent yourself. Success may disappear. Titles may fade. Markets may collapse. But resilienceâif cultivatedâcreates a future even stronger than the past.
