This is the first LaFerrari in the United States! I believe that this is the first footage under the sun in America. The one filmed here is one of three existing prototypes in the world and is the exact prototype that was shown at the Geneva Auto Show. The other two protoypes are currently in Maranello, Italy being tested by Ferrari's test drivers on their Fiorano test track. Shown around the world at private viewings, this LaFerrari fires but does not run. Consequently, Ferrari officials had to push it. This past Thursday, August 15, 2013, I had the unique opportunity to photograph and film Ferrari LaFerrari. It was one of those cases of "right place, right time." I was driving around aimlessly when I noticed LaFerrari being unloaded from the back of a semi. This LaFerrari was in Carmel Valley, California for a private, special viewing for Ferrari's most elite owners. The LaFerrari is Ferrari's first hybrid. It is powered by a 6.3L V12 internal combustion engine supplemented by a HY-KERS battery unit. The LaFerrari produces 950 HP, top speed of 220 mph and 0-60mph in under 3 seconds. LaFerrari is a direct competitor to the new McLaren P1 and the new Porsche 918 Spyder. The LaFerrari follows in the lineage of the modern Ferrari Supercars, the Enzo, the F50, the F40 and the 288 GTO.
