Akon says getting Eminem on “Smack That” started with a shot in the dark. At the time, Em wasn’t doing many features. Akon didn’t have a direct line to him, so he flew to Detroit and started asking around until a connection eventually led him to Obie Trice — and then into the studio with Eminem. Once they connected, Em played Akon a beat he had produced himself. Akon started building the record. Then the next day, he came back around lunchtime and found out Eminem had already been in the studio that morning, recorded his verse and left for lunch. That’s when Em explained something Akon never forgot: He treated rap like a real 9-to-5 job. Come in early. Do the work. Take lunch. Come back. Leave when the workday is over. That might be the most interesting part of the whole story. Akon had enough hunger to go find an opportunity he didn’t have access to. Eminem had enough structure to make greatness repeatable once the opportunity arrived. Two completely different kinds of discipline helped create one of Akon’s biggest records. RAP LAW: Hunger can get you through the door. A system is what helps you keep delivering once you’re inside. 🎯 ARTIST TIP: Stop treating consistency like the enemy of creativity. Sometimes a routine gives your talent somewhere to show up every day. ➕ Follow @RapRecapLive for more hip-hop stories + game. 📺 Credit: Akon via VladTV #Akon #Eminem #SmackThat #HipHopHistory #RapRecapLive
