he Kingdom of God The phrase Kingdom of God appears frequently in the New Testament especially in Mark, Luke, and some Pauline letters, while Matthew often uses the synonymous Kingdom of Heaven. These refer to the same concept: God's sovereign rule, present in Jesus' ministry and fully realized in the future. Matthew Kingdom of Heaven Matthew chapter 3 verse 2: "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matthew chapter 4 verse 17: "From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, 'Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.'" Matthew chapter 4 verse 23: "And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people." Matthew chapter 5 verses 3 and 10: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Matthew chapter 5 verses 19 through 20: "Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." Matthew chapter 6 verses 9 through 10: "Pray then like this: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." Matthew chapter 6 verse 33: "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." Matthew chapter 7 verse 21: "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven." Matthew chapter 9 verse 35: "And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction." Matthew chapter 10 verse 7: "And proclaim as you go, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.'" Matthew chapter 12 verse 28: "But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you." Multiple parables in Matthew 13 describe the kingdom of heaven, e.g., like a mustard seed, leaven, treasure, pearl, net. Matthew chapter 19 verse 14: "But Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.'" Matthew chapter 19 verses 23-24: "...It is hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven... it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God." Matthew chapter 24 verse 14: "And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come." Matthew chapter 25 verse 34: "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.'" Mark Mark chapter 1 verse 15: "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel." Mark chapter 4 verses 26-32 (parables): "The kingdom of God is like a man who scatters seed on the ground... What can we compare the kingdom of God to? It is like a grain of mustard seed..." Mark chapter 9 verse 1: "Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power." Mark chapter 9 verse 47: "...It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell." Mark chapter 10 verses 14-15: "Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it." Mark chapter 10 verses 23-25: "How difficult it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!... It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God." Mark chapter 12 verse 34: "You are not far from the kingdom of God." Mark chapter 14 verse 25: "...I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God. Luke Luke chapter 4 verse 43: "I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well, for I was sent for this purpose." Luke chapter 6 verse 20: "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God." Luke chapter 8 verse 1: "Soon afterward he went on through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God." Luke chapter 9 verse 2: "And he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick."
