Daniel Dubois will defend his WBO heavyweight world title against former champion Fabio Wardley in a highly anticipated rematch on 17 October at London's O2 Arena. Londoner Dubois, 28, dethroned Wardley with an 11th-round stoppage in a thrilling all-British showdown in Manchester in May to become a two-time world champion. It was announced during Saturday's undercard of Moses Itauma's IBF heavyweight world title fight with Filip Hrgovic, with Dubois and Wardley facing off in the ring. Dubois said he is predicting a "dominant victory" before adding: "Let's get it on. It's just a war. The Ipswich fighter's rise through the sport has been remarkable. Having only taken up boxing at the age of 19, he progressed through the unlicensed white-collar scene before reaching the top of the heavyweight division. Dubois, meanwhile, has experienced the full spectrum of boxing's highs and lows. The 26-fight veteran has suffered three defeats during his career but rebuilt himself to claim world honours twice, with his victory over Wardley marking the latest chapter in his comeback story. Promoter Frank Warren had suggested the winner could face Itauma next summer at Wembley Stadium, but those plans may have been shelved after the Briton lost to Hrgovic for the IBF title. The heavyweight division remains fragmented following Oleksandr Usyk's decision to vacate his titles. Russian Murat Gassiev currently holds the WBA belt, while Germany's Agit Kabayel is the WBC champion. Daniel Dubois is a British professional boxer. He is a two-time heavyweight world champion, having held the World Boxing Organization (WBO) title since May 2026, and previously the International Boxing Federation (IBF) title from 2024 to 2025. He also previously held the World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight title (Regular version) from 2022 to 2023. At regional level, he has held multiple heavyweight championships, including the British and Commonwealth titles from 2019 to 2020. As an amateur, he was a five-time national junior titlist and British champion. Dubois is known for his formidable punching power, with 22 of 23 wins by knockout. On the night of Dubois vs Wardley, Dubois arrived late to the arena, reportedly due to traffic delays on his way to the venue. There was a sold-out, boxing attendance record of 18,212 in attendance at the arena. After a poor start, which saw Dubois dropped twice in the opening three rounds, he managed to regroup, dominate and eventually force a stoppage, winning the WBO title and, becoming a two-time heavyweight world champion. Dubois went down in the first round when he took an overhand right punch during the first ten seconds of the fight, then went down two rounds later by the same overhand right. Other than the knockdowns, Dubois continuously boxed his way to winning rounds two and four through six after hurting Wardley numerous times to tie up the scorecards in the first half. By the second half, Dubois began to stagger Wardley with power shots, building up damage on Wardley's right eye and to his nose. Wardley continued to fight back with his own punches, but Dubois bested him in exchanges severely weakened Wardley to the point that referee Howard Foster had to intervene in the round 11. Prior to the stoppage, Wardley was checked over by the ringside doctor twice, who allowed the fight to continue. Dubois landed 179 of 391 punches thrown (46%), more than Wardley, who landed 97 of 358 (27%) Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has confirmed that his long-awaited heavyweight boxing showdown with fellow Briton Anthony Joshua will take place at New York City’s iconic Madison Square Garden. No exact date has been set for the Joshua vs Fury fight — one of the biggest in British boxing history — although it is expected to be held in November after both signed a contract with Turki Alalshikh, Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority chairman. Fury called New York City “the land of opportunity”, but fans criticised him in comments on the post as they questioned why an all-British fight was being held in the US, and not at a location like Wembley Stadium in the United Kingdom. Fury, who turned 38 in August, has won 36 professional bouts, suffering his only losses in two fights with Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk in 2024. He announced his return to boxing in January, having retired from the sport in December 2024 after losing to Usyk in a bout for three of the four major world titles.
