We should not blindly look to history with the assumption that everything will work out in the exact same fashion every time. However, there are principles and trends that should be examined and historical precedence can offer parallels for what we see going on in the world today. Historians often use the term Pax Romana to refer to a period of relative peace during the Roman Empire's height of power. This period of peace brought about an explosion in literature, culture and technology. As the Roman Empire collapsed under the strain of supporting a morally—and financially—bankrupt society, this state of uneasy peace came to an end, throwing the region into chaos. This historical precedent has a clear modern parallel. Throughout the latter half of the 20th Century, the world enjoyed another uneasy peace. This time, two superpowers stared each other down, resulting in an explosion of technology. As the Soviet Union collapsed, the United States remained the world's only superpower and policeman. While we should not pretend that the United States has been perfect in its policing of the world, it is clear that America's strength has provided a level of stability. The latter half of the 20th century was far more peaceful than the first half. Like Rome before it, the United States is in a state of moral decay. At the same time, America has handcuffed itself with an increasingly burdensome debt, and its influence on the world stage is in clear decline. While the United States military remains a dominant force in the world, the evidence that a weakened America is making the world less safe is abundant. Large-scale conflicts have raged in Ukraine, Ethiopia, Gaza and Iran, as well as civil wars in Syria, Sudan and Myanmar. A chart published by Our World In Data provides a statistical case of note. The chart tracks the number of deaths of combatants and civilians due to fighting, using a per 100,000 people metric, including both international and civil conflicts. Looking at the data based on decades provides a startling reality—that the era of Pax Americana is gone. In the decade ranging from 2000 to 2009, 0.44 deaths due to conflict were recorded per 100,000 people. From 2010 to 2019 that number more than doubled to 0.95. The first half of the current decade is not faring any better, as from 2020-2025 the number doubles again, reaching 2.08. A report provided by Asialink, from the University of Melbourne, shared this assessment: “Actions beget reactions. America’s withdrawal from active leadership has coincided with the emergence of conflicts around the world.” Sources: https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/death-rate-in-state-based-conflicts?time=earliest..2025 https://asialink.unimelb.edu.au/diplomacy/pax-americana-over-what-comes-next-and-how-will-it-impact-southeast-asia/ Offers: Tomorrow's World Presents: Benchmarks in End-Time Bible Prophecy https://youtu.be/9_L_rcyFpZg Tomorrow's World Viewpoint: Creating a Bipolar World https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chxnE886Hs4 Tomorrow's World Magazine Article: American Liberty: Its Promise and Its Price https://www.tomorrowsworld.org/magazines/2026/july-august/american-liberty-its-promise-and-its-price Tomorrow's World Telecast: America and Europe: Allies or Enemies https://www.tomorrowsworld.org/telecasts/america-and-europe-allies-or-enemies #america #americavseurope
