Hemu Vikramaditya : Delhi’s King । Indraprastha The story of the last powerful Hindu king of Delhi is so extraordinary that every Indian should know about it. Hemu Vikramaditya was born around 1501 AD into an ordinary Brahmin family. According to historians, Hemu was physically strong and also practiced wrestling. At that time, North India was ruled by Sher Shah Suri, and Hemu worked for Sher Shah’s army, supplying goods and provisions. Some time later, Sher Shah Suri died, and his son Islam Shah Suri became the ruler. Islam Shah recognized Hemu’s abilities and gave him the responsibility of managing the markets. Gradually, Hemu also became one of Islam Shah’s trusted advisers. After Islam Shah’s death, his cousin, who was also married to his sister, Adil Shah Suri, became the ruler. Adil Shah appointed Hemu as the commander of his army. Hemu then fought several battles against the Afghans and achieved repeated victories. According to Wikipedia, he won 22 consecutive battles and defeated Afghan opponents several times. Through his military skills, he repeatedly protected Adil Shah’s rule. Hemu later came into conflict with the Mughal army and defeated Mughal forces several times as well. But Hemu’s greatest ambition was to reach the throne of Delhi. On October 7, 1556, he defeated Akbar’s forces, captured Delhi, and declared himself king. Hemu was given the title “Vikramaditya,” and from then on, he became known as Hemu Vikramaditya. This was a major event in Indian history. A man born into an ordinary family had reached the throne of Delhi. However, his reign did not last long. About a month after Hemu became the ruler of Delhi, Akbar’s forces once again marched against him. According to Wikipedia, the battle took place on November 5, 1556, and is known as the Second Battle of Panipat. Hemu fought with all his strength, and in the beginning, his army appeared to be overpowering the Mughal forces. But during the battle, an arrow struck Hemu in the eye, causing him to lose consciousness and collapse on his elephant. When Hemu was seen unconscious, confusion spread through his army, and his forces began to fall apart. Eventually, Hemu’s army was defeated, and he was captured. Hemu was later executed. After Hemu’s death, his family also had to suffer greatly. According to Wikipedia, Hemu’s father was asked by Akbar’s side to accept Islam, but he refused. He was then killed. However, Hemu’s wife managed to escape from the Mughal soldiers. The story of Hemu Vikramaditya shows that you do not have to be born into a royal family to be remembered by history. Sometimes, even a boy born into an ordinary family can rise to the throne of Delhi through his hard work and courage and become immortal in history. So, what do you think about the incredible story of Hemu Vikramaditya?
