How much does payload really hurt EV van range? In this video, we take our BrightDrop on a real-world highway range test twice, one basically empty, and one loaded with the weight of 8 Tesla Long Range battery modules. The goal was simple: see what the actual difference is in energy use and total range. And the result? It was a whole lot smaller than most people expect. For this run, the BrightDrop used about 144-145 kWh on the empty leg and about 150 kWh on the loaded return leg, even with rain on the way back. That puts the result well within the kind of real-world margin where weather, speed, road surface, and rolling resistance matter more than most people think.
