[Season 3 Episode 17] I invited and interviewed Hannah Reimann: Pioneer & Advocate of Stretto Pianos and Creator of the International Stretto Piano Festival and Stretto Piano Concerts, for this episode. Ms. Reimann was featured on the front page of the Wall Street Journal, described as a "musician on a mission to make the world safe for small pianists." According to paskpiano.org (PASK stands for Pianists for Alternatively Sized Keyboards), recent research into pianists' hand spans shows that: Over 50% of adults have hand spans that are too small for the conventional keyboard. About 87% of women and 24% of men have hands that are too small for the current-sized keyboard. Children are currently forced to learn on an instrument designed for men with large hands. Given a choice of keyboard, around 75% of adults would most likely choose a smaller size! After all, our struggles as pianists may not be because of our shortcomings but the wrong-sized keyboard we've been practicing and performing. After 3 decades of her effort, Stretto pianos are now available from Steinway and Sons on a custom-order basis, making Ms. Reiman the only liaison for anyone wanting an original Steinway Stretto grand piano. In this episode, Ms. Reimann will take us through the world of Stretto Pianos and introduce us to its thriving community. We will discuss topics as follows: 🎵 The definition of a Stretto Piano 🎵 Difference between the conventional and stretto pianos. 🎵 Brief lesson on the history of pianos – how the sizes of the piano and width of the key have increased and standardized by the 1880s. 🎵 Ms. Reimann's 30-year journey of promoting Stretto Pianos. 🎵 International Stretto Piano Festival And more! FYI, We all should learn about Stretto Pianos, so don't miss this episode! 🎧 Listen to this episode on your favorite podcasting platform: https://rss.com/podcasts/the-piano-pod/ 😎 Executive Producer: Yukimi Song (https://thepianopod.com) 👩🏻💻 Writer: Yukimi Song 🕹️ Audio/Video Editor: Yukimi Song Studio LLC (https://yukimisongstudio.com) 🎙 Host: Yukimi Song [Help sustain The Piano Pod] https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=5r3dyjaymt8ql [Hannah Reimann] Pianist, vocalist, teacher, composer, actor, and filmmaker 🌐http://www.hannahreimann.com/ [International Stretto Festival & Stretto Piano Concerts] 🌐 https://www.strettopianoconcerts.org/ [Sponsors] 🎹 Forte: FREE virtual platform for music educators and students.
