This was filmed on 09/06/22 An European shed GBRf Class 66798 was on duties to drag Southern Rail Class 455802 and 455829 on 5Q55 Stewarts Lane T&R.S.M.D - Newport Docks (Sims) Gbrf featuring former Class 508 64707 named “Labezerin” and 64664 “Lewit” by Arlington Fleet services. The British Rail Class 455 are a mark 3 derived Electric Multiple Units (EMU) built by British Rail Engineering Limited (BREL) in 1982-1985. Designed to replace the older EMU stock such as the Class 405 4-SUB, Class 415 4-EPB and Class 508. These units worked in the suburban routes Greater London and Surrey. The Southern Rail Class 455801-455846 previous served in Network South East until the collapse of British Rail and was taken over by Connex South Central. Until 2001, all units were transferred to Southern. In 2004-2006 rest of the units were refurbished by Alstom in Eastleigh works where they received a new seating layout of 2+3 including the removal of cab end gangways to facilitate the installation of driver's air-conditioning. Another refurbishment on the units occurred in 2012 with a repaint and interior changes. Later on in 2018, another refurbishment occurred in order to meet the PRM 2020 Specifications. It still retains its original EE 506-20J motor. These units have served their purposes in the suburban areas. We bid these units a grand farewell.
