Not a single country wants to own this piece of land — so what could possibly be so bad about claiming it? Despite being over 2,000 square kilometers in size — about as big as Luxembourg — no country claims it. This unclaimed patch of desert sits right between Egypt and Sudan. It has no government, no laws, and technically, anyone could walk in and claim it. In 2014, an American father did just that. He planted a flag designed by his daughter and declared it the Kingdom of North Sudan. Later, two Russians and an Indian followed, each creating their own “kingdoms” in the same spot. So why does this land even exist unclaimed? It all goes back to British colonial borders. In 1899, Britain drew borders that gave Bir Tawil to Sudan and Hala’ib to Egypt. Three years later, they reversed it — switching the borders. Today, both Egypt and Sudan want Hala’ib — it’s 10 times larger, has access to the Red Sea, and may hold oil. Claiming Bir Tawil would mean giving up Hala’ib — and neither side is willing to do that. So, Bir Tawil stays a no-man’s-land — the land that no one wants. #birtawil #maps #unclaimedland #egypt #sudan #geographyfacts #historyfacts #colonialborders #britishhistory #middleeast #desertland #kingdomofnorthsudan #maplovers #shorts #geoshorts #fyp #viralfacts #territory #borderdispute #weirdmaps #interestingfacts #educationalshorts #geographygeeks #factshorts #landnobodywants #microcountry #worldmaps #globalgeography
