In this video you'll learn how to easily write an SEO job description to get the candidate of your dreams! ► Like this video? Subscribe! http://smr.sh/KdD If you've been following us lately, then you already know we are making a series of videos about hiring SEO professionals with all the tips and tricks of our SVP of Marketing, Maxim Roslyakov (that has done this many many times!). Often it's easy to overcomplicate job descriptions, but keeping it short and sweet is the secret that helped Max write job descriptions that attracted the right candidates for our positions. Here are the steps to writing a good one: Step #1: describing the nature of your business Make it easy and understandable: what exactly are you selling? Answering this question will help the candidates to match their previous experience and see if they're the right fit for your company. Step #2: type of transaction It's important that candidates understand what you're looking for in terms of results: leads, online transactions, foot traffic? Having this information can help understand better the type of content needed to drive traffic that converts into the type of transaction of your choice. Step #3: manager or contributor? It depends a lot on the type of business, but it's a fundamental distinction that should be clear in your job description. Do you need an individual contributor (usually hired in small companies), who will collaborate with freelancers or agencies, or do you need an SEO manager (usually hired by bigger companies) who will manage a team of people, hire the team, and so on? It can happen that great individual contributors and SEO experts are very bad people managers, but if you hire a good manager it won't matter if they don't have the right experience because it will be balanced by hiring the right people with great backgrounds. Definitely something to think about. Step #4: do you need or want agency experience? Deciding whether you want a candidate with or without agency experience can be an important decision. Why? Because working in agencies often means that you're managing many many clients at the same time and without ever going in too deep on every case. There's a lot of planning, lots of consulting, but not that much execution. On the contrary, in-house specialists is focused on only one project and understanding all the nuances of the business with tons of hands-on experience. This transition is possible, but non the least often difficult.
