As the world crawled out of the ashes of the Second World War and looked ahead at a brighter future, the jet age seemed, to many, the embodiment of the technological boom that was to come. But few nations had access to jet aircraft in 1945, and many were looking to get their hands on them. The de Havilland Vampire, made partially of wood (like the Mosquito and the Hornet), was the first jet fighter that many nations around the world had access too, and despite not being the first (or the fastest), this little wooden jet plane punched above its weight and broke record after record. This video details the story of the de Havilland Vampire, including its records, marks, and the aircraft developed from the Vampire itself. If I conclude that I was wrong, I'll pin a comment about it, or just pin your comment!
