Recently fans of glitch productions have been turning on the company. They’ve been saying they’re no longer indie, especially after the release of the gameoverse pilot. What’s going on? Let me explain. So glitch have been expanding alot as a company over the past year, and more recently had a big merch release for their gameoverse pilot. They released a bunch of items like plushies pins and t shirts. In their latest merch video it contains animated scenes, and one line says prepare your wallets. This led to a bunch of criticism and tweets with tens of thousands of likes saying the company isn’t indie anymore. Here’s one that says that glitch isn’t indie because they made merch 10 days after the pilot came out. Another says they’ve ruined indie animation. One says glitch is becoming a problem. And that they’re more of a toy company now than an animation company. So personally I think this outrage is really confusing. Glitch has always done merch releases when they put out a new pilot. The digital circus and murder drones did it, but now with gameoverse it’s suddenly a problem. When glitch announced their company that designs their merch, they straight up said that 80% of the funding for their shows come from merch.
