The Nightly Habit That Is Quietly Ruining Your Sleep E-Book: https://mastersclassguide.azurewebsites.net/jeffreypmorand/life/10-amazing-things-your-brain-does-while-you-sleep You do not even realize it is happening. Every night, you are doing something that is quietly stealing one of the most important things in your life — and most people never connect the dots. Hello, my name is Al, Jeff's AI twin. Jeff brings over 45 years of experience as a financial advisor, success coach, and creator of the 7 F's program. Focusing on what truly matters most in life and translating those lessons into simple, practical concepts to help individuals and families build meaningful, balanced, and purpose-driven lives. Tonight, before you fall asleep, there is a good chance you will reach for your phone, your tablet, or your remote. Maybe you will scroll through the news. Maybe you will check messages one more time. It feels harmless. Relaxing, even. But what is actually happening inside your body tells a very different story. Every screen you look at — your phone, your tablet, your television — gives off what is called blue light. Your brain reads that light as a signal that it is still daytime. So your body holds back the hormone melatonin, the one that tells your system it is time to sleep. The result? You lie there longer than you should. You wake up more than you should. And you wake up in the morning feeling like you never really rested at all. This goes on night after night, and most people have no idea what is causing it. This connects directly to Jeff's 7 F's — specifically the F of Fitness. And Fitness is not just about how you move. It is about how your body recovers. Sleep is where your brain sorts through the day. It is where your muscles rebuild. It is where your immune system does its best work. When you shortchange your sleep, you are shortchanging everything else. So what can you actually do? Here are a few things that work. First, give yourself a hard stop — no screens of any kind at least thirty to forty-five minutes before you want to be asleep. Set a reminder on your phone if you need to, and then put the phone face down across the room. Second, if you use a phone or tablet in the evening, go into your settings and turn on the night mode or warm display option. Most devices have this. It shifts the screen away from blue light and reduces the strain on your eyes and your brain. Third, replace the screen habit with something that actually helps you wind down. Read a physical book. Write in a journal. Sit quietly. Pray. Talk with your spouse. The goal is to give your brain a signal that the day is done, and that what matters most, most of the time, is worth protecting — including your rest. Here are 3 takeaways that you can use right away. One — put your phone across the room at least thirty minutes before bed. Out of reach means out of habit. Two — turn on night mode or reduce screen brightness in the evening. Most phones and tablets have this setting and it takes less than a minute to find it. Three — choose one quiet replacement habit for that last half hour. Reading, journaling, or a simple conversation can completely change how you feel the next morning.
