The Volcano That Burns Blue at Night | David Attenborough. Fire is supposed to be orange. In this full documentary, we travel to Kawah Ijen in Indonesia, the only volcano on Earth where the night pours with rivers of electric blue flame — and where the flames are only half the story. Beneath the blue fire lies the largest highly acidic crater lake on the planet: a turquoise lake nearly a kilometre across, with water the film describes as closer to battery acid than to any lake you have ever touched. The film explores why the fire is blue (burning sulfur gas, not lava), why the lake wears the colour of dissolved metal, and why this rare recipe — enormous sulfur, gases at up to six hundred degrees, night after night — exists here and nowhere else at this scale. You will meet the sulfur miners who climb into the crater's poisoned air night after night, carrying seventy to ninety kilos of yellow stone on their shoulders in what is often called the hardest job on Earth. And you will see the volcano's strangest habit of all: at dawn the blue fire fades like stars, still burning but outshone — a mountain that performs only in the dark. Watch until the end for the lake's final twist — the film suggests the same acid that makes Kawah Ijen so dangerous may also be the leash that keeps its eruptions in check. If strange places and quiet human endurance move you, tell us in the comments which part of this blue-burning mountain surprised you most, and subscribe for more full-length nature documentaries. #KawahIjen #BlueFireVolcano #DavidAttenborough #AcidLake #SulfurVolcano #VolcanoDocumentary #FullDocumentary #IndonesiaVolcano #NatureDocumentary #WildScience #ExtremeNature #Volcano
