An Imaginary Conversation: On April 24th, 2001, at the 92nd Street Y in New York City, Sir Paul McCartney shared a deeply moving moment with Charlie Rose. McCartney reflects on his relief at reconciling with John Lennon before his passing in 1980, which inspired him to write the classic tribute track Here Today (from 1982's Tug of War). Paul details the true story behind the line about "the night we cried," recalling how a hurricane diverted The Beatles to Key West in 1964, where he and Lennon stayed up drinking, talking, and shedding tears together, before reciting the lyric as an intimate spoken-word poem. "And if I say I really loved you and was glad you came along / Then you were here today, for you were in my song." — Paul McCartney
