NEW YORK — A public school principal in the Flushing neighborhood of Queens, New York is taking some serious heat from everyone from parents to politicians over her decision to ban 100 kids from a school carnival because their families could not afford the $10 entrance fee. Principal Joan Monroe reportedly decided that allowing the kids who did not pay to enter the carnival fun area would be unfair to the more affluent children who were able to afford the fee. Reports in the New York Post said many of the children who were not allowed to attend were from immigrant Chinese families and instead of enjoying a day of school-sponsored fun, they were required to sit in an auditorium instead. Teachers from the school reported many of the children wept hysterically as they were unable to understand why they were not allowed to enjoy the event, which included a bouncy castle, inflatable slides, kids rides, food, drinks and a DJ playing children's tunes. The school principal later allegedly made a list of all the parents that did pay the entrance fee and send them gift bags. The incident caught the attention of the local school board, politicians and the president of the company that set up the carnival attraction. The company's president, Gary Pincus, said his Send in the Clowns Entertainment company would happily put on a free party for the banned kids, explaining he found it unacceptable that children from low income families were turned away. Other establishments and companies have also offered to host free events for the children that were not permitted to attend. ----------------------------------------Â--------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets.
