Registered as a National National Landmark in 2009, the Chazy Fossil Reef is the oldest fossil reef in the world dating back more than 450 million years. It contains the fossilized remains of bivalves, corals and other ancient marine life that once lived in the warm shallow seas of Ordovician earth. We also discuss the Pleistocene glacial history of Lake Champlain from the Champlain Sea to the way that indigenous groups likely survived in this environment.
