Master Fidelity NADAC S music server — hear it in the US at GTT Audio, Master Fidelity's North American distributor: https://gttaudio.com/portfolio/master-fidelity/perspectives/nadac-s Complete NADAC front end (NADAC D + NADAC C + NADAC S): https://gttaudio.com/portfolio/master-fidelity Weishen Xu of Master Fidelity came to Long Valley carrying the first NADAC S music server, and Bill did not expect it to exist yet. At the Vienna show in June, Master Fidelity said September. Bill said no chance — the running joke in this industry is "August of what year?" — and then a finished unit turned up in the reference room. What follows is a walk through the digital front end with the man who designed it. Weishen takes the NADAC D converter, the NADAC C master clock and the new NADAC S server one shelf at a time: what the DAC's display is actually telling you about the file you're playing, why true 1-bit conversion lives or dies on clock accuracy, and why wander below 10 Hz — not jitter alone — is what separates digital that sounds like digital from digital that doesn't. He also puts a number on what it costs to build a clock that behaves: crystals burned in for months, measured, re-measured, and rejected by roughly three out of four. The NADAC S is the piece that closes the loop. Instead of a server sitting outside the system as an asynchronous source, it runs on the same 10 MHz reference as the converter and the clock, with that reference distributed to the clocks inside the machine itself. One system, one time domain, from the digital source through to the analog output. Two days of listening later, Bill transferred Weishen the money and refused to let the unit go home on the plane. Shipping has started and there is a queue.
