I attended the Skytrax World Airline Award ceremony 2019 in Paris. In this video I am sharing my thoughts on the Skytrax Award. Whether Skytrax award ranking is fair? What made Skytrax the benchmark of the airline awards and how to improve the credibility of these awards? At the end of the video, I share with you of my vision on future Youtube Video review. The end goal is to be more transparent, and more exclusive behind the scenes to a wider range of audience. ----- In this video, I share the highlights of my experience at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2019, which took place on day two of the Paris Airshow 2019. 71 awards were given out in total in a very diverse range of categories including best airline for first class catering, best airline for premium economy class and also, of course, overall best airline of the year which was awarded to Qatar Airways. In second place this year was Singapore Airlines and All Nippon Airways came third. Skytrax, which started out in life with the much less exciting name âInflight Research Services,â is based in the United Kingdom and runs a website which reviews both airlines and airports using several sources of information including surveys given to international travellers about such things as the quality of lounges, cabin staff and in-flight entertainment and catering and information from Skytraxâs own forums, where customers post opinions about their own experiences using the worldâs airlines and airports. Skytrax has received a mixed reception since its inception with some concerns over its independence and impartiality, given that many airlines have benefited greatly from Skytraxâs mentioning of them as a form of marketing and also because, unlike competitor review websites such as Trip Advisor, Skytrax does not carry out secret/unannounced reviews and ratings of the airlines that it monitors. There have also been concerns that customer reviews posted on Skytrax have been doctored to remove critical content. Furthermore, in this yearâs Skytrax awards, there were jaws on the floor after EasyJet, a UK budget airline, was promoted to a four star airline but Turkish Airlines was demoted to a three star airline. Lufthansa was also promoted to a five star airline but other, smaller Swiss and Austrian airlines, in my opinion, often provide a better service and have not been given five stars. Having said all of this, Skytrax reassures visitors to its Air Travel review website that it is an independent customer forum and that the website does not have a financial link with any airline or airport which it mentions. Skytrax is also undeniably world renowned in the aviation industry for its quality excellence and star ratings. Skytrax needs to work on its representation of the smaller airlines within its awards and stars scheme and also, going forward, needs to be very careful to maintain its independence which is the jewel in its crown that allows its awards and ratings to be respected and valued. It may also need to streamline its awards ceremony - I was quite shocked that 71 awards were given out and feel that this could be regarded as overkill, with too many awards risking diluting the value and impact of each one. It was interesting to see the different ways in which airlines received their Skytrax awards. As you will see, Eastern and Asian airlines tend to be much more enthusiastic and proud, sending over a whole team of cabin staff and managers to receive their awards whereas Western Airlines might only send a single representative. What do you think of Skytrax? Let me know in the comments section down below â I look forward to reading your opinions and thanks as always for watching!
