It is often served hot with ghee. It is called Poornalu in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Poornalu follows the traditional methods common to all South Indian cuisines. Poornalu is traditionally prepared using a rice-urad dal batter, and then packed with some shredded dry fruits and channa dal mixture called as poornam and it is then deep-fried in oil until golden brown. Poornalu is also called suyyam, seeyam, sukiyan, sugeelu or sugunta in various parts of Southern India. It is also often termed as Poornam, Boorelu in Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana and Poornalu seems to be the shortened form of it. --- 📍 POORNAM BOORELU RECIPE (ANDHRA STYLE) 📍 For Purnam: 1 Cup Chana Dal (Rinse & Soak Chana Dal for 2 hours) 2 Cups Water 1 Cup Jaggery ¼ tsp cardamom powder For Batter: (Rinse & Soak Urad dal and Rice for 5 hours) 1 Cup Urad Dal 2 Cups Rice 1 tsp Sugar 1/2 tsp Salt Purnam Preparation: After soaking Chana Dal drain it & Cook with water in cooker. Grease hands with ghee and make purnams. Batter Preparation: Grind Soaked Urad dal and Rice. Add water as required, prepare a smooth thick batter. (Make sure the consistency of the batter is like idli batter) Add 1 tsp sugar and ½ tsp salt. mix well. adding sugar will give a nice colour to burelu. Burelu Preparation: Dip the purnam into the batter and drop it into the hot oil. Deep fry on medium flame cooking uniformly till it turns golden brown and crisp.
