Spiritual History & Origins • 17th-Century Foundation: According to regional history, the monastery was founded in the 17th century by Drukchen Ngawang Chögyal . The Prophecy of Zhabdrung Rinpoche: The monastery holds a significant place in the unification history of Bhutan. Local religious texts note that when Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal (the unifier of Bhutan) was traveling through the region, he spent a night at Chithang Rabten Choling. He was warmly welcomed by the resident meditators.
