guy who uploads again is back to talk about FOMO, also known as 'The Fear Of Missing Out'. From live service games, pre-order bonuses, and just general fear of missing out on the hot new game. social media sites: Twitch - https://www.twitch.tv/stryxo Twitter - https://x.com/Stryxo Bluesky - https://bsky.app/profile/stryxo.bsky.social Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/stryxoinsta/ Discord - https://discord.com/invite/mqvnxCBmEZ additional footage that helped me make this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1Zsr6XIxjg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-jWWuqSiZE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJD1o5XqdAM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNKbxTZQBQA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-3tpnKWDwM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9naBulH2e9s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wv7p3bJdrLo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8b1D2GIKytI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKX9_JpMQ38 You know what Iâm sick and tired of? FOMO. âThe fear of missing outâ that is seemingly baked into every single multiplayer game that comes out these days. This probably affected me the most at the beginning of 2025, where Fortnite had back to back heater skin collaborations with Hatsune Miku and Godzilla. To celebrate this, the battle royale mode of the game was updated to include a feature to let you become Godzilla, complete with his heat ray, a stomp attack, and the ability to blow through buildings to hunt down children who were just trying to play their one last game before they had to go to bed. It is, unironically, the most that fans of the big lizard have gotten gaming wise since the last Godzilla game in 2014, which is going for 200 DOLLARS on ebay, jesus. Of course, this is only counting playable versions of Godzilla, his last big gaming outing before this was for Call of Duty Warzone, along with Kong, where all they did was kinda just stand around the map, yelling at each otherâŠand thatâs really it. Not that you could even watch either of them for long without someone trying to kill you considering itâs a battle royale game. Whatever, the point is, the Fortnite Godzilla experience is gone, forever seemingly, and the Warzone experience too, not that I care as much about it, but still. Unless I want to shell out 200 dollars to play Godzilla on the PS4, I will never get to play as Godzilla on a modern console. And this is all because I missed out, I wasnât playing fortnite during this period, nor did I really feel like playing through the battle royale for just a CHANCE at getting to be Godzilla, which even if I did manage to become Godzilla, it only lasts for a limited time, and knowing my luck the lobby would be full of people who play fortnite much more than I ever would and kill me right before I actually get to have fun. So the mode is gone now, and so is the ability to obtain the Godzilla skin from what I understand, which means that as the biggest Godzilla fan I know, Iâm stuck on either waiting to shell out, and I cannot emphasize this enough, 200 DOLLARS ON EBAY for a copy of Godzilla PS4, waiting for a port, which isnât coming, or waiting on a sequelâŠwhich isnât coming either considering the developers are busy working onâŠI dunno actually they havenât announced what theyâre working on next I couldnât find anything. Their company mascot on twitter sure is cute though. The Fear of Missing Out isnât exactly a new concept to the gaming industry, nor is it suddenly very popular to cash in on just because of fortnite, like battlepasses were. FOMO has probably been around since the concept of somebody selling a product was invented because itâs just good marketing. I think if I was evil, and awful, and terrible and I owned an evil website Iâd throw up like half-priced weekends like itâs COD. Because informing someone that theyâre missing out on something, that thereâs only a limited time to act on this offer, discount, product, rewards points, puts pressure on us to buy and consume without thinking too hard about the actual deal weâve been given, because it was a limited time offer, and if you didnât act quick then you wouldâve missed out on the chance to spend an extra 50 bucks that you were planning on spending on less important things, like bills, and savings. Look no further than what used to be Black Friday in America, a whole holiday about the Fear of Missing Out on 300 dollar off deals for 1080p TVâs. That stuff was a spectator sport, where you could watch an ogre mom use her toddler on a leash like a flail against some unsuspecting shopper. As for FOMO in games you really donât have to look any further than the highest grossing media franchise on earth, Pokemon. If you happen to live under a rock Pokemon can be grouped together based off of category, like these are all starter pokemon, and these are pseudo-legendary pokemon, and the groupings go on.
