This is part 2, or our 2 part exploration, where we will enjoy a free-diving circumnavigation of Ko Phi Phi Le Island, using our boat to move past, and avoid, several heavy traffic areas. This Part 2 will cover more free-diving under awesome undercut cliffs. We'll see a shark, clouds of fish, avoid getting run over by a rogue Ruea Hang Yao, and see the most spectacular overhanging cliffs from underneath them, with huge stalactites! Ko Phi Phi Le Island is part of Hat Noppharat Thara – Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park, and at 2 square kilometres in area, is the second largest island of the archipelago. Ko Phi Phi Le is home of the famous Maya Bay Beach which was used in 2000 the film The Beach. The cliffs of Ko Phi Phi Le Island, undermined by centuries of water and wave erosion, are spectacular, and almost no one explores the underwater splendour of these. Despite the many cost-effective boats serving tourists to this island, and running straight to β€œThe Beach” for Instagram pics, the breathtaking outer perimeter of Ko Phi Phi Leh is rarely visited, so we will! Here are some key moments: 0:26 – Intro scenes 1:50 – The cliffs are near vertical and quite high here 2:33 – I go from filming the cliffs above, to the water below me... with a ~2 meter shark 3:03 – A wait a minute to make sure the shark has moved along, and film a jellyfish up close. Fish are eating another one next, and you can then see that much of the underwater footage is at or under the towering overhanging cliffs. 4:03 – I missed it at the time, but another shark is hunting under the overhanging cliffs top right 4:54 – Cool rock, followed by 2 large Needlefish, and many more at 5:54 6:24 – The first cloud of small fish 7:20 – The next, seemingly endless, cloud of small fish sparkling in the sun 9:50 – Diving up into a cloud of small fish, with a reminder that we are always near or under the overhanging cliffs 11:21 – Diving up into a cloud of small fish, with some close-ups of the sharp mollusc covered overhanging rock 14:16 – Not much head-room as I film from the surface a bit... contact at 15:05 ; ), and we get deeper into the immense overhang 16:19 – A glimpse of my support boat, then some waves 17:25 – Spectacular overhang, the diving down to a big Pufferfish 18:17 – Spectacular overhang, and cliffs, followed by cool sunlight shot up while diving, then another silver cloud of fish 21:26 – I hear and then see a boat coming very close, so I stay tight to the rock as it goes by, with a cool view of the propeller 22:02 – Diving down into a cloud of many fish among the rock caves, followed by a spectacular view of the cliffs above 25:24 – Pronounced overhang 28:50– Spectacular, gnarly, cliffs above 29:54 – 5 minutes of amazing looks up at the most spectacular overhanging cliffs from underneath them, with stalactites 36:58 – Underneath more breathtaking stalactites! 37:41 – 5 minutes of diving down for close-ups of coral, fish, giant clams, and various other beautiful marine life 42:43 – Walking from Ton Sai Beach to Loh Dalum Beach back on Phi Phi Island, stopping to say hi to some cats If you enjoyed this please consider hitting the like button, hype, and subscribing.
