The Marshall Tucker Band says goodbye in style on "See You Later, I'm Gone," caught live in San Francisco back in 1973 The Marshall Tucker Band tears through "See You Later, I'm Gone" in this live recording from Bill Graham's Winterland Ballroom, taped in September 1973 on the West Coast leg of the band's first national tour opening for the Allman Brothers Band. Doug Gray's vocals lead the original six-man lineup of Toy Caldwell, Tommy Caldwell, George McCorkle, Jerry Eubanks, and Paul Riddle through the up-tempo number. At this point the band was fresh off the release of its debut album and playing with the energy of a group determined to make a name for itself outside its home turf. That drive comes through clearly in the pace and tightness of this performance, with Toy Caldwell and George McCorkle trading rhythm and lead lines throughout. This track is part of "Way Out West! Live From San Francisco 1973," an archival live album built from the complete multi-track tapes of the Winterland show and mixed for release decades later. The full concert also includes "Hillbilly Band," "Another Cruel Love," "Take the Highway," "Can't You See," "Ramblin'," and "Everyday (I Have the Blues)." It stands as an early, unfiltered look at a Southern rock band on the rise in 1973, months into a tour that would help define the rest of its career.
