A short but memorable meeting with Alfonsa Horeng, the legendary weaver from Flores. Many of us would love to own an Indonesian tradition Tenun Ikat, a traditional woven cloth which often takes months or even years in the making process. Although many of us know these complex and time consuming process, still, we often take for granted the work of these traditional weavers, normally mostly women who spend their lives juggling between weaving, farming, home making and raising their children. This year (2014), we headed down to Indonesia and visited many regions to meet the weavers, to learn and to understand how they really work. In this occasion, we met up with Alfonsa Horeng, my idol in the weaving world, who has been campaigning tirelessly and globally to globalize traditional Indonesian textile, particularly from Flores, her home town. She has been working very hard to motivate the weavers in her home town to encourage them to preserve and continue this tradition, particularly the conventional style of weaving, which they normally called "gedogan" in Indonesia. It is truly privileged to have met her and hope to follow her footstep to campaign for better future of Indonesian Tenun.
