Oh, this song…I heard it just a few weeks prior to it being released, and it changed everything. Outside of the melody and vocals, the rest of the flute parts were written by me alone. I came up with it all during my long shifts, driven by this internal battle I've had for a while now of whether or not to continue playing and making music despite feeling like I'm not getting anywhere with it. This is not only represented with the way I interpreted the song, but the alto and bass flutes fight with one another, and actually have lyrics of their own for the first time ever. :’) From my basic understanding the song was written about an ex, but I portrayed it in a way where the ex in this scenario is none other than myself and the professional musician I’ve longed to be. Since last thanksgiving I lost a lot. I moved into a new place thinking it’d be better for both my mental health and recording. It ended up being the complete opposite. I completely lost my ambition and my will to keep going, along with my recording space. There’s no peace and quiet here. I’ve been having to drive out a ways and record in my car, which has been anything but ideal, both for the sound and myself. Humiliation was the last cover I got to record in a proper room. All of this has quite literally sucking the life out of me and I’m stuck until I can afford to leave. August 8 marked 15 years with the flute. 15 years, but I’m nowhere near the skill level I want to be. The lack of the drive to practice and spend more time with difficult repertoire has hindered me so much...so unmotivated for someone who dreamed of mastering her instrument. But, in 15 years I have also accomplished the following. - Performed songs for my classes back in jr high, which later drove me to open up the YouTube channel I run today. - Performed solo in front of the entire school for an assembly in 8th grade. - Started a YouTube channel for my music, having released a total of 67 song covers; 54 full lengths and 13 shorts at the time of posting. - Have had 11 of my covers pass 1k views, with two surpassing 5k and having over 300 likes respectively at the time of posting. - Started learning to write my own parts and transcribe for others. - Received a handful of awards in my band programs. - Got to play contrabass flute for a few months as part of a flute choir and make a few covers with it. I’ve since been aiming to buy one for myself. (They’re so expensive tho…ðŸ˜) - Saved up the money for an alto and a bass flute (which don’t sound half bad albeit being cheap). - Received my first channel donations at the end of 2025. - Have performed at WGI World Championships twice, both times as a soloist, making history as part of the first independent winds group and first alto flutist from Arizona to travel there. - Was trusted with the honor of playing The Stars and Stripes Forever on piccolo and am doing it again 2 weeks from now as part of a world record attempt. I’m nowhere near where I want to be, but I’ve reached such great heights — goals I deemed impossible. Sometimes I think about taking lessons again. I haven’t since my college days, but something tells me I’d be unstoppable if I were to truly commit to it. I aim to take on professional gigs and travel the world. I hope someday I’ll get there. ____________________________ I DO NOT OWN THIS SONG.
