Felix Nikolas Prehn, economist and former investment banker, explains why the midterm result everyone said would crash stocks set off the Dow's best day of the year, what the S&P 500 did after the 7 previous times a Republican president lost Congress to the Democrats, and which parts of the market are winning and losing underneath the index. š”Donāt Miss the "GREAT PIVOT Opportunity". Some people sold and went to cash. Then the result came in and the Dow rose nearly 1,600 points, about 3%, in a single day. Since 1954 this has happened 7 times, under Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, Reagan and both Bushes, and a year later the S&P 500 was higher every time, by about 15% on average. JPMorgan's market intelligence team found the S&P 500 has been up a year after every midterm since 1950. Felix explains in plain English why Wall Street likes a divided government, and why 1974 and 1986 show that a pattern is never a promise. He then opens the Winston app's sector rotation page to show how differently the sectors moved on the same day. Energy fell 6.29% against the market as Brent crude dropped 8.7%, while consumer discretionary, financials and the big platforms rose. He explains the 200-day moving average and why the chip funds SOXX and SMH and Nvidia closing below it matters, and how the Texas governor's race and a possible data centre moratorium split the AI trade: Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet and Meta rose, while the smaller neocloud builders CoreWeave, Nebius and IREN fell between 6.7% and 11.2%. On gold, Felix covers Commerzbank's view that margin calls drove the fall to a one-year low. He closes with Peter Mallouk's 50-year chart of cash against shares, and the risks that could spoil the boom: the 11 December government funding deadline, a possible Fed rate rise in December, the AI trade and the war with Iran.
