This video shows an overview of the components of a vintage military vehicle radio system. The system is composed of a PRC-77 Radio with X-Mode (25KHz spacing), an AM-1777 Audio Amplifier, and an MT-1029 mounting bracket. The radio in this video has markings from an Austrian military battalion "BH23" with the white and black eagle emblem. Also, the X-mode radio modification providing double the frequency selection of the original PRC-77 is commonly seen in European hardware. X-mode allows 1,840 different channels to be used between 30.00MHz and 75.95MHz -- each channel 25KHz from the next. Standard U.S. equipment supported only 920 channels with 50KHz spacing. The AM-1777 Amplifier (similar to the AM-2060) allows the radio to be powered from the vehicle's 24V system instead of the battery inside the PRC-77 unit. This module also includes an external speaker to amplify the audio received from the radio. Finally, the MT-1029 mounting bracket bolts to the vehicle and clamps to the AM-1777 (or AM-2060) along with the radio. The MT-1029 can also be used to mount a standalone RT-524 radio/amplifer/power supply. In the video, I showed a bush-whip antenna attached to PRC-77; however, in a vehicle setup, an external antenna and antenna matching unit are connected via cable to the AM-1777 or AM-2060.
