Hammer had already resurrected the likes of Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy and Dr Jekyll by the time the 1960s came around. Quite naturally, the new champions of horror turned their attention to another of horror's most famous villains; the werewolf. The Curse of the Werewolf (1961) tells a familiar werewolf story but weaves it through an unexpected structure. Before we get to Oliver Reed's tortured man struggling with his hairy curse, we travel through time and tragedy, following many different ensembles as we are shown the origins of the curse and the evil circumstances that bore it. This is the 42nd episode of the YouTube series, 100 YEARS OF HORROR, by Haunted Blowfish. The series highlights one horror film per year for a century, from 1920 to 2019.
