Today I’m visiting Wild Waves in Washington on the final day its waterpark will ever operate. For decades, this park was where generations of Washington families spent their summers. But now, the waterpark is closing for good—and I wanted to understand why it was closing, what made it mean so much to the people who grew up here, and what could happen to the rides after the gates shut for the final time. So I traveled to Wild Waves to experience and document as much of the park as possible before it disappeared. Throughout the day, I: 🌊 Ride every waterslide in the park šŸŽ¢ Experience the park’s most iconic roller coasters šŸ› Ride slides dating all the way back to the 1980s šŸŽ¤ Talk to guests spending one final day at their childhood waterpark šŸ‘· Meet employees who have worked here for decades šŸ“š Learn the history of how a waterpark in rainy Washington survived for more than 40 years šŸ© Try the foods guests say they'll remember most šŸ”Ž Investigate why the park is closing and what could happen to its rides From the classic Konga Slides and Riptide to Zooma Falls, Pacific Plunge, Raging River, and the theme park’s Timberhawk and Wild Thing roller coasters, I wanted to capture the Wild Waves experience one last time. Coming into this video, I didn't fully understand why this place meant so much to people. By the end, I realized they weren't just saying goodbye to some waterslides and roller coasters. They were saying goodbye to a place they grew up with. I’m traveling the world experiencing and learning from waterparks as part of my mission to one day build a waterpark of my own.
