In 1773, the British attacked Bhavani Pathak's group with around 300 soldiers, but the British suffered heavy losses in the attack. It was during this period that a woman joined Bhavani Pathak, who is still regarded almost like a goddess in Bengal. Her name was Devi Chaudhurani. She had faced cruelty from her in-laws, after which she came to Bhavani Pathak. Bhavani Pathak took her under his protection and taught her reading and writing, as well as how to use weapons. Later, Devi Chaudhurani also became part of Bhavani Pathak's struggle. Eventually, Devi Chaudhurani became known as the Queen of Dacoits.
