Even though the Visakhapatnam Mayor's post is reserved for a woman under the General category, the TDP leadership has reportedly chosen to give an opportunity to a young woman leader from an ordinary BC family, belonging to the Turpu Kapu community, instead of prioritising corporate heavyweights and the families of senior political leaders. She previously served as the corporator for Ward 26 in the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC). During the 2021 GVMC elections, Visakhapatnam North constituency had 17 wards, but despite the strong YSRCP wave at the time, Sravani was the only candidate from the TDP to win a corporator seat in that constituency. She secured a victory with a majority of 1,155 votes. During the YSRCP government's tenure, she fearlessly questioned the authorities over the lack of development funds for her ward, refusing to be intimidated by alleged threats.
