Twenty-three hours after Stephen Colbert signed off from "The Late Show" on CBS for the very last time on May 21, 2026, a small community show episode mysteriously appeared on a Michigan Public-Access station without warning—hosted by none other than Stephen Colbert. Eleven years after his first episode of "Only In Monroe," which was released on July 1, 2015 (just prior to the start of his The Late Show run at CBS), Colbert's second turn as host of the local public-access show perfectly bookended his historic run on late-night television—a run that was tragically cut short because an unnamed elected official applied a bit too much orange pancake makeup, causing him to lose his mind and become an @sshole. The lesson here, kids: never play with orange pancake makeup. By the way, you can find Colbert's first (July 1, 2015) "Only In Monroe" episode on our channel. It should be right next to this one. In many ways, this second episode was the most hysterical example of Stephen's natural humor, delivery, timing, wit, bladder control and immunity to helium-infused grain spirits (don't try this at home). It harkens back to his wonderful lo-fi back-office episodes from the pandemic era and will leave you in stitches if you pay attention, go with the flow and stick with the sativa. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PSA: By the way, death metal polka band "Stick With The Sativa" is playing this Saturday at "Jorge's The Rusty Sanchez" in downtown Armada, MI (“ar-MAY-duh”). Free ticket with every fully intact road kill you bring to the show. Carcasses in Ziplock bags only. Band also asks that you do not dress the carcasses in lingerie, sports jerseys or any type of clothing. Feral pig/swine carcasses with lipstick applied will be rejected. Thank you for your attention to this matter. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This episode features many surprise guests and even gets local guest talent involved in the presentation. Michiganders Jack White, Jeff Daniels, Steve Buscemi and Marshall Mathers (aka Eminem (plain, not peanut)) also make appearances in the episode. And Byron Allen, who took over Colbert's former CBS slot with the revamped "Comics Unleashed," also made an appearance via FaceTime while in the buff, reaffirming that there is no bad blood between the two—only love, respect and the occasional digital man-sharing. Stephen also engages hilariously with Monroe County locals, such as the regular hosts of "Only In Monroe," Michelle Baumann and Kaye Lani Rae Rafko Wilson—the two (or possibly seven) ladies he met when he shot his first episode of the show. Monroe Community Media's Creative Director for "Only In Monroe," Genevieve Benson, also (inadvertently) engaged comedically(?) with the show, as she near-apathetically tried in vain to enforce station rules while catering to Stephen's every need and whim, even though he wanted (and needed) more. And he still does. Need more. He simply needs more. Of everything...except your judgement (you look at me when I'm talking to you, Jack White). Additionally, local businesses like River Raisin Distillery provided some badly-needed liquid courage for the cast and volunteer crew. Additionally, rival hot dog joints “Monroe’s Original” and “Vince’s" were also dragged into the show narrative to make Stephen's second visit to the public access show truly historic, somewhat liquidy and most importantly, nearly devoid of any meat flavoring. Sadly, the only people who'd truly appreciate this show are those who know what humor actually is. So while we're all waiting for Elon Musk to "bring back comedy" and show us what that truly is or sounds like, we'll just have to suck it up and do with this for now. Trust me, I so do want to learn to laugh and know what truly is funny and what truly isn't. (Elon, please show us the way.) Enjoy and please share this with anyone who may need a good laugh. However, if you're tempted to send this to Elon then please don't. If you've ever heard his laugh, then you'll understand why. I'm just saying this on behalf of any innocent animals that may be in the room with him at the time. Lastly, always please remember to "Be Brest" when you're in Monroe—"Be Best" everywhere else.
