So it is not surprising that as a result of this, when he was an adult, Abu Yazid often went back and forth to prison and was hated by Islamic jurisprudence scholars and Islamic theology scholars. After being blessed with a son named Yazid, he was later better known as Abu Yazid. Then the name Al Bustami was attributed to the name of the village where he was born, namely Bustam. Abu Yazid al-Bustami's journey to become a Sufi took decades. Before proving himself as a Sufi, he first became a faqih from the Hanafi School. One of his famous teachers was Abu Ali al-Sindi. He taught the science of monotheism, the science of nature, and other sciences to Abu Yazid. The process of living a life of asceticism for 13 years, Abu Yazid al-Bustami wandered in the deserts of Syria, only sleeping, eating, and drinking very little. After receiving lessons in the science of monotheism, his life changed and he entered the world of Sufism. Abu Yazid was the first person to popularize the terms al-Fana and al-Baqa` in Sufism. He is very special among the Sufis who are recognized as one of the greatest Sufis.
