Have you ever met somebody who treats you really well⊠and found yourself wondering what on earth they're up to? They do something thoughtful. They remember something you've said. They offer to help without being asked. And instead of simply enjoying it, you find yourself wondering, âWhat's the catch?â When you've spent years in a relationship where you had to watch somebody's mood, prepare for arguments or explain yourself before anyone even asked, kindness can feel surprisingly unfamiliar. In this video, I explore why that happens and how our past relationships can shape what we expect from new ones. We look at those ordinary moments that can reveal so much â apologising for a forgotten pint of milk, struggling to say what you'd actually like for dinner, feeling uncomfortable with a compliment, or waiting for an argument that never comes. I also explore the difference between what's familiar and what's safe, why trust takes time to develop, and why feeling uncomfortable doesn't automatically mean something is wrong with you â or that the person in front of you is trustworthy. Sometimes the situation has changed, but our expectations haven't quite caught up. And sometimes, when somebody offers to make you a cup of tea, you really can just drink the tea! I'm Sarah-Jane Covell, a BACP-registered psychotherapist and author of *When We Becomes Me: A Psychotherapist's Guide to the Beginning, the Messy Middle, and the Other Side of Divorce*. On this channel, I explore the psychology behind relationships and those thoughts, feelings and behaviours we don't always understand at the time. **Making the invisible visible.** #relationshippsychology #trustissues #emotionalhealing #healthyrelationships #psychotherapy
