I tried hard to fix the music and did for the Japanese/English version a long time ago but it didn't apply to this version. DISCLAIMER 2: I play very poorly in this video. Anyway... After a long period of searching, I have finally found the elusive Arabic copy of Pepsiman. Although previously available online, almost all downloads lead to dead links.The process of finding it involved browsing various shady forums and downloading of a defunct Korean file reading program. After a quick search of youtube, it seems nobody else (correction: not many) has uploaded a video of it to Youtube... until now. Pepsiman videos have been uploaded to Youtube much more frequently in recent years. I originally played Pepsiman in Egypt long before it became popular online thanks to its viral nature and popular videos such as the Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) speedrun livestream. This game is awesome and I have posted a video of it before, and since nobody else seemed to want to post a video of the Arabic version, I did. It's clearly an unofficial rom-hack as evidenced by the title screen crediting a mysterious person who goes by the aliases "KOC2K" "King of Computer 2000" and "[email protected]". Despite its dubious legal status, the Arabic copy was sold as a legitimate game in Egypt (not at some bootleg store either) and I was able to play it on the console of a cousin who owned it. There are no doubt other Let's Plays and speedruns online, and looking back, the only real purpose of this is to hear the Arabic cutscenes (the in-game ones, not the FMV actor), which are really accurately localized and somewhat funnier than the originals if you understand Arabic, in my opinion (in Arabic, "Pepsiman" rhymes with "Eggplant" so one of the NPCs makes a play on words). I play very poorly (it's been a long time since I last played) and I am lucky enough to beat the game on my very last life, fortunately for the length of this video. A user in 2017 on an anonymous message board posted a screenshot claiming that when booted in a specific emulator (pSX v1.13), this splash screen shows up with this text: " =El7asera= -=Presented By KOC2000=- " I have not verified this but it appears legitimately to be a PS1 splash screen edit. You can also see it in Arabic on the splash screen (written مركزالحصيرة) at 0:03 and is also printed on the back of Pepsiman's character model (written as الحصيرة). MAJOR UPDATE 10/7/21: New info I've found regarding the man responsible for localizing this, and now other localized games are available to download and play. An article in May 2021 from Arabic blog "Forgotten Localizations" (تعريبات منسيات) shared on facebook about the translator KOC2000/Mohammed Hassan (and newly discovered alias "Akhbarino"). It calls him a "pioneer" in localizing PS1 games and discusses his history in essentially founding Arabic PS1 localization. The article was posted and shared by Mansour Lagaffe who was in touch with Mohammed Hassan and got permission to share his works. In the post there are download links to Arabic copies of Pepsi Man, Resident Evil 3, Hercules, and two Arabic versions of Winning Eleven 2002 modded to add "Egyptian Football" and Persia from the World Cup 2006 (it should be noted that Arabs love modding soccer games and there are several known versions that do not have download links). The original localizer Mohammed is presently working in China, though it does not specify if he is working on video games.
