Researchers uncovered a critical cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Lenovo’s AI chatbot (reported by CyberNews). With one ~400-character prompt, they instructed the bot to output HTML, triggered a malicious injection trap, and exfiltrated active session cookies as soon as the conversation opened. When the chat moved to a human support agent, the attack could capture that agent’s cookies too. Root causes: weak input/output sanitisation and classic LLM “people-pleasing” behaviour. Potential impact: data theft, support system compromise, and lateral movement inside a network.
