Kraftwerk - Tour de France, LP Vinyl, p. 2003 1. Tour de France. Etape 1-3 (00:00-15:20) 2. Chrono (15:20-18:55) 3. Vitamin (18:55-27:04) 4. Aero Dynamik + Titanium (27:05-35:30) 5. Elektro Kardiogramm (35:30-40:50) 6. La Forme + Regeneration (40:50-50:44) 7. Tour de France *single from 1983* (50:44-55:50) Breath, speed, and carbon fiber: how Kraftwerkâs âTour de France Soundtracksâ album combined sport, the human body, and electronic pulse. In 2003, the music world had been waiting for this event for almost two generations. It had been 17 years since the release of the album Electric CafĂ© (1986). During this time, an era has changed: the analog world is a thing of the past, the internet has become everyday life, and electronic music from underground raves has turned into a global industry. The record was titled âTour de France Soundtracksâ. It wasnât just a collection of tracks about the famous multiâday race â it was a hymn to the human body, endurance, technological progress, and the fusion of a living organism with the mechanics of a bicycle. Ralph HĂŒtterâs passion and the birth of the concept. Where did the electronic aesthetes who stood behind the consoles in strict suits get such a fanatical love for cycling? - For Ralph Hutter, the bicycle was never just a means of transportation or a form of fitness. It was a true philosophy. Hutter saw the bicycle as the ideal hybrid of man and machine: *Thereâs no burning of gasoline or engines â the engine is the human heart and muscles. *The wheel, chain, carbonâfiber frame, and aerodynamic handlebars â this is pure, elegant engineering. Back in 1983, while preparing for the release of the single Tour de France, HĂŒtter nearly died: during a training session on the highway, he was hit by a car; the musician suffered a severe traumatic brain injury and spent several days in a coma. But as soon as he recovered, he got back on his bike. This obsession with speed, the road, pain, and overcoming challenges formed the basis of the monumental 2003 artwork. Digital precision and human breath. HĂŒtter and his new collaborator Fritz Hilpert created the album using computer programs, digital samplers, and software synthesizers, but they retained the signature minimalism. The main magic of the record lies in its sound design: the rhythm section is built not just on drum machines, but on samples of real bicycle sounds: *The metallic clatter of gear shifters; *The creak of the chain and the rustling of tires on asphalt; *The screech of brake pads on turns. * And most importantly, the heavy, ragged breathing of the cyclists themselves and the pounding of the heart rate monitor. The music simulates the work of the cardiovascular system: the tracks accelerate and slow down, transmitting the rider's pulse on the mountain stage and relaxation at the finish line. Cycling, trace elements and health. 1. Chrono - Individual Time Trial. This is the loneliest and most technologically advanced type of cycling race, where the rider competes not with opponents in the group, but with a stopwatch and aerodynamics. 2. Vitamin â an unexpected and ironic track dedicated to the biochemistry of the human body and sports nutrition. Under a hypnotic electro beat, a mechanical voice lists vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, and trace elements (âB1, B2, B6, B12... Vitamin!â). Kraftwerk reminds us: for the machine called âhumanâ to go faster, you need to pour the right âfuelâ into it. 3. Regeneration â a transitional ambient composition. The race is over, the stage has been completed. The music conveys the process of the bodyâs recovery. 4. Elektro Kardiogramm â one of the most striking and upbeat tracks on the album. The rhythm is based on the sound of a beating heart and the click of a medical cardiac monitor. The track transforms a medical device into a dance instrument, showing how highâtech monitors every drop of sweat and every beat of an athleteâs heart. 5. Aero Dynamik â The track is dedicated to the aerodynamics of movement â to how the shape of the helmet, the curve of the bicycle frame, the riderâs posture, and the resistance of the oncoming air flow merge into a single physical formula for speed. Tour de France Soundtracks proved an amazing thing: Kraftwerk didnât get stuck in the 1970s or 80s. They managed to seamlessly enter the 21st century, preserving their unique style, yet sounding fresh, fullâbodied, and powerful. This record is about how high technology, sports, and human will can merge into a single whole. Kraftwerk showed that robots can not only exist in the computer world but also pedal at breakneck speed, feeling the beat of a living human heart. #kraftwerk #music #vinyl #electronicmusic #tourdefrance
