Because I know what is happening! Welcome to the U.S. Air Force Weapons School Airfield Capture Exercise at Nellis Air Force Base. This is not an ordinary training flight. It is a massive, carefully planned exercise that brings together air mobility crews, strike aircraft, and multiple military organizations to practice a mission that could be critical in a real war. Here’s how it works. 🎯 STEP 1: TAKE THE AIRFIELD. Weapons School students plan how to seize a contested airstrip on the Nellis Range, much like U.S. forces might need to capture an adversary airfield. 🪂 STEP 2: GET THE TROOPS AND CARGO IN. C-17 Globemaster IIIs and C-130 Hercules aircraft carry out assault landings or parachute troops onto the objective. ✈️ STEP 3: KEEP THE AIRCRAFT MOVING. Air mobility crews work alongside strike aircraft and ground personnel to protect the operation, support incoming forces, and help get aircraft and personnel in and out of the objective. ⚔️ STEP 4: NEUTRALIZE THE THREAT. An opposing force made up of instructors and other military units challenges the students for hours. The goal is to test their planning, decision-making, and ability to coordinate multiple aircraft and organizations under pressure. This is what makes the Air Force Weapons School so special.
