Did Billy the Kid’s story really end at Fort Sumner in 1881, or did he live for another half century under a different name? In this video, we travel to Buckeye and Prescott, Arizona, to follow the strange story of John Miller, a rancher whose friends and family believed he was Billy the Kid. From a marriage in New Mexico just weeks after the famous outlaw’s reported death to stories of bullet scars and a mysterious past, Miller’s life raised questions that followed him to his grave. But the story didn’t end there. In 2005, investigators opened his grave in Prescott’s Arizona Pioneers’ Home Cemetery, hoping to find answers. Instead, they uncovered two skeletons, sparked allegations of grave robbing, and added another chapter to an already unusual mystery. Join us as we visit the places connected to John Miller, examine the claims, and explore how one of the Old West’s most famous stories leads to an unexpected corner of Arizona. Much of the account discussed in this video comes from the book “Whatever Happened to Billy the Kid?” The claims surrounding Miller’s identity remain disputed.
