Grand Theft Auto 2 or "GTA 2" is an open world/action game. It was made by DMA Design (known currently as Rockstar North) and published by Rockstar Games. It was released on PC and Playstation in 1999. GTA 2 does not really differ much from GTA 1. It's mostly the details that have been changed or improved. For example the graphics are a bit better and you can now choose if you want to play at daytime or nighttime (which looks pretty nice with all the lighting effects) The world has also gotten a bit more dynamic. Pedestrians can now be seen entering a taxi or a bus on occasion. Gangmembers sometimes shoot at cops or thiefs and there are also special NPC's like muggers or carjackers which will either try to steal from other NPC's or even you. The biggest change was probably the introduction of the "respect meter". In every part of the city there are always three gangs and you can do missions for those. If you complete missions for a gang you earn the respect of them but you lose it for the other (most likely the hostile gang of the one you are working for). Getting respect from a gang is needed to get further missions. If they don't trust you you can't work for them. You could also get respect by bluntly shooting at gangmembers but the best and quickest way are the missions. Although if you fail a mission you lose respect for the gang you are working for so be careful. Also if a gang starts to hate you it will be much harder to survive in the city because every hostile gang member who will see you is gonna try to kill you. A similar system exists in GTA 3. The difference here is that GTA 2 is totally open world and you can decide to work for whichever gang you want, whereas GTA 3 kinda forces the player into a predefined path because of how the story was implemented.
