🔗 Save $6,000 A Year with My Complete Amish Home-Saving Method I teach: https://eliasyoder.com For generations, folks made their own soap right at home and thought nothing of it. Then we forgot how, and started buying it in plastic wrappers, a little bar of who-knows-what, and a household goes through a great deal of soap in a year. Here is how to make your own from just three plain things: oil, lye, and water. It is genuinely simple, and I will be honest and firm with you about the one part that must be respected. In this video: ✓ The three plain ingredients, and why olive oil makes a gentle old castile-style bar ✓ Firm lye safety, because this is the one part that can hurt you if you are careless ✓ Why you always add lye to water, never water to lye ✓ Why you must measure exactly by weight, for safety and for the soap to work ✓ Mixing to trace, and how to know when it is ready for the mold ✓ The make-do box mold for those without fancy molds ✓ Wrapping it warm to cool slowly, and cutting it before it hardens ✓ The weeks-long cure that makes it mild, hard, and fully safe A word of care: lye is caustic and deserves real respect. Wear sealing goggles and gloves, work with good air moving and do not breathe the vapor, add lye to water and never the reverse, never use aluminum containers or utensils, keep children and pets away, and keep vinegar on hand for splashes. And never use fresh soap; it must cure for weeks so the last of the lye neutralizes. Tell me in the comments: how did your first batch come out, and what oils or scents did you try? Next time, we go back to the chickens: sprouting grain and growing green fodder, turning cheap dry grain into fresh living feed in a week, right on your counter in the dead of winter. The people who built this country with their hands knew that, and we are only just starting to remember it. #Amish #Homesteading #SelfReliance #SoapMaking #DIY #OldWays #Frugal #Homestead #HomemadeSoap #Castile #NoWaste #EliasYoder
