I almost died... and got it all on tape. Full Story: While on our spontaneous adventure to Colombia I went out with two locals that I had met through CouchSurfing.org. They were incredibly nice people, and became great friends with them. We had such a good time that we were out until 4 AM. While dancing in a street with Rosa a random guy stole my main camera from Simon. I was in shock for a few seconds, but then realized that this random guy had stolen my camera. I ran after him and grabbed it, he slipped away and ran down an dark alley. Without a thought in my head I ran after him. Luckily I chased him down, and tried to convince him to give me back my camera. I honestly felt like I was a little kid who had their halloween candy stolen. I kept offering him money and he kept threatening me (had no idea at the time what he was saying). Then another guy came from the other alley, this guy was a food vendor looking guy. I did not understand him either, but he kept reaching for my wallet. So here I am with two guys in a dark alley on a random street in Cartagena. If you had told me I would be in this situation 2 weeks ago, I would have said, where is Cartagena? Having no idea where I am or where my two local friends had gone. I felt like I had to do something fast, or I wouldn't make it out alive. I held up the money and for a brief second the guy who had my camera looked at the money, I swiped my camera from his hand and ran faster down that alley than I had ever ran before. I continued to run through the restaurant that we were dancing outside of and into the streets. Luckily a cab pulled right by me while running. I jumped into the cab and said, GOOOOOO. I got back to the hotel with a bloody hand and no idea that the moment had been recorded. About twenty minutes later Rosa and Simon showed up to my hotel scared and not knowing what happened to me. They explained that they had ran to the police to get help. We talked for a while and then gave each other big hugs and called it a night. *Please remember that this movie represents 1 bad person, not Cartagena, Colombia. Everyone in Cartagena was incredibly nice and welcoming. I swear I danced with everyone I met (Even the slushy guy, Ronaldo). I made countless friends and will be back very soon! Do not let 1 bad person influence your decision to travel and experience this incredible city.* Any questions leave in the comments belooooow! Special thanks to: Translator: David Alzate Friends: Brett, Rosa, and Simon Annnnnd the camera man: The unknown criminal.
