In 2022, he reportedly travelled to the United States after Venkatesh Reddy promised to help him pursue higher studies and secure employment. However, instead of the opportunities he expected, Pulla Reddy allegedly faced severe abuse at Venkatesh Reddy’s residence in Missouri. According to the case details, the victim was forced to perform household chores and company-related work. His passport and immigration documents were allegedly taken away, and he was subjected to inhuman treatment. The abuse reportedly included restricting access to basic facilities, depriving him of food and sleep, and physically assaulting him with electrical wires, weapons, and PVC pipes. Investigators also uncovered disturbing allegations of humiliation and brutal beatings. The incident came to light in 2023, prompting an investigation by US Homeland Security authorities and local police. Venkatesh Reddy and his associates were arrested in connection with the case. The incident also triggered a political controversy in Andhra Pradesh, with current state minister Nara Lokesh raising concerns about the allegations at the time. After a lengthy legal process, the US federal court sentenced Venkatesh Reddy to 50 months in prison. His co-accused, Nikhil and Shravan, received prison sentences of 37 months and 30 months, respectively. The investigation also uncovered alleged fraud involving disability benefits. Venkatesh Reddy, a former US military employee, was found to have improperly obtained $83,776 in disability benefits by misrepresenting his disability status.
