St Peter’s Church is the oldest surviving building in the village of Sharnbrook and has medieval origins. The site likely hosted a church since Norman times, with the first recorded rector named William around 1155. The present building dates mainly from the 13th to 15th centuries: 13th century: Arcades of the nave, outer walls of the aisles and the chancel arch were constructed as the village grew. 14th century: North-east chapel, porches and lower parts of the west tower were added. 15th century: The church’s spire was added and many windows were renewed in the Perpendicular Gothic style. Inside, elements such as a 15th-century font, a medieval screen (c.1500) and various memorials showcase its long history. In the churchyard is the Magniac Mausoleum (1870), a listed memorial designed by William Burges for the Magniac family of Colworth. The church underwent restoration in the mid-19th century (1855–1858), which included new seating, roof work and interior improvements. Over the centuries, repairs to roofs, bells and fittings continued, reflecting its ongoing role in parish life. St Peter’s Church is a Grade I listed building, recognised for its architectural and historic importance, and was officially listed on 13 July 1964.
