For the Vijayawada police, Goddess Kanaka Durga, who resides atop Indrakeeladri Hill, is regarded as a beloved daughter of their own household, while the One Town Police Station is considered her parental home. Yes, what you are hearing is true! For decades, the Vijayawada police have followed this unique tradition of treating Goddess Kanaka Durga as a daughter of their family and the One Town Police Station as her birthplace. Every year, on the eve of the commencement of the Dasara Navaratri celebrations, they carry turmeric, vermilion, silk garments and traditional offerings to the Kanaka Durga Temple and present them to the goddess as part of this long-standing custom. If you visit the One Town Police Station during the Dasara Navaratri celebrations, you will feel as though you have entered a temple. This year, beautifully crafted dolls brought from Kondapalli, A. Konduru and other parts of the state, along with idols of Goddess Kanaka Durga arranged in the shape of the Sri Chakra, are attracting devotees. This remarkable tradition has a history spanning hundreds of years. Historical accounts suggest that the practice of offering the first prayers and presenting traditional offerings to the goddess began during the rule of the Reddy kings, when a security system was established to protect the Indrakeeladri Hill area. The tradition continued even during British rule, with British Station House Officers also observing the ritual with great devotion. Records of these special prayers are reportedly preserved in the archives of the One Town Police Station even today. Another important custom is the performance of special pujas for police weapons and vehicles on Vijayadashami, the final day of the Navaratri celebrations. After the conclusion of the Teppotsavam, special prayers are also performed for the festival idol of the goddess within the police station premises. This year, the One Town Police Station has undergone a remarkable transformation for the Navaratri celebrations. For the first time, an impressive structure resembling the temple tower of the Indrakeeladri shrine has been created inside the station, with a divine idol of Goddess Kanaka Durga installed within it. Behind this structure, nearly 2,000 artistic dolls have been beautifully displayed. Famous wooden dolls from Kondapalli and A. Konduru in NTR district, along with unique figurines collected from various states and idols of the goddess arranged in the shape of the Sri Chakra, are captivating devotees. By protecting law and order while preserving their cultural heritage and deep devotion, the Vijayawada police have earned a special place in the hearts of the public. #KanakaDurgaTemple #Vijayawada #Indrakeeladri #VijayawadaPolice #DasaraNavaratri #NavaratriCelebrations #Vijayadashami #DurgaDevi #AndhraPradesh #thinkandhra For More Updates Follow Us On : Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/ThinkAndhraOfficial/ Twitter : https://x.com/think_andhra Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/thinkandhra/ WhatsApp : https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VaznDVzCHDyg8PmAYe0z
