#travel #france #history #nîmes #arles On this new adventure, we’re taking you with us from #Milan to the #FrenchRiviera, then on to #Provence, #Grenoble, #Geneva, the #Alps, #Annecy, and more! An exceptional road trip—actually a loop of nearly 2,500 kilometers—that will let you discover some lesser-known corners of France, Switzerland, and Italy with the @Autourdumonde1 team! Combining #tourism, #history, and #gastronomy, this several-week journey will let you discover splendid places both on the ground and from the air. In this seventh episode, follow us in the footsteps of the Roman Empire in the south of France. First, we’ll be in Arles to explore the local Roman amphitheater and theater. We’ll then head to Nîmes to visit the Maison Carrée and the city’s magnificent amphitheater. We’ll then make a detour to Orange to see its famous Roman theater, before heading to Grenoble where we’ll spend the night. 0:30 Introduction 0:46 Final hours in Arles and a visit to the Arena 2:23 Exploring the Roman theater in Arles 3:43 We hit the road toward Nîmes 4:05 Short stroll in Nîmes and stop at the Maison Carrée 6:03 Tour of the Nîmes Arena 9:14 Back on the road toward Orange 9:36 Stop in Orange and tour of its famous theater 12:29 Final leg to Grenoble 13:05 Evening and dinner in Grenoble Arles: Since rain and holidays had prevented us from visiting the city’s main attractions—namely the Arles Amphitheater and the local Roman theater—before heading to Nîmes, we took the opportunity to explore them to our great delight. Nîmes: With just over 150,000 residents, the city is the third most populous municipality in Occitanie, behind Toulouse and Montpellier. The purpose of our stop was simple: to explore the city’s Roman ruins. In fact, you may not know this, but because of its rich ancient history, Nîmes is nicknamed the “French Rome.” Nîmes also boasts a rich culture and history and remains a city with a strong identity. We hope to spend more time there on a future trip. Orange: We continue our day dedicated to the Roman heritage of southern France with a stop in Orange, which is also known for its role in the First War of Religion between Protestants and Catholics. But the main reason for our visit to this city of 30,000 residents is its famous Roman theater, which is very well preserved. Orange is a charming town that we really enjoyed. As with Nîmes, we hope to return during the tourist season when the place must be even more lively. Grenoble: We ended the day in Grenoble, where we unfortunately only spent one night. The city is very pretty and its residents are super friendly; we had some excellent meals there.
